Comprised of detailed contours and hillshade with geographic names, public lands, animal locations and movements, roads, water bodies, and many other terrain and location markers. This map indicates Habitat and Range of Elk, with Migration (elk \/ deer) corridors, so you know where you are in relation to animals, when linked with your device's GPS technology. Mark locations with pins or trails to know where you've been and where you are heading. A must have reference map for the experienced hunter, and a necessity for those just getting into the sport. The only map on the market providing the previous years hunting statistic. Grand Mesa terrain ranges from high elevation (11,000ft) spruce\/fir forests to low elevation (4,800ft) pinyon-juniper woodlands. Weather can be rainy or snowy, then warm up and dry out the following day. Roads can become very muddy and 4WD is recommended. Hunters should be prepared to spend time on foot or horseback. Much of the area is public land. Overall, the hunting pressure is heavy. Intensive natural gas development activity is occurring in GMUs 42 and 421. DEER HUNTING The deer population has declined in recent years. The fourth, buck-only season was eliminated in 2014. However deer are still abundant and at the lower end of the population objective range. Deer are found on forest lands and higher elevation private lands during Oct. The resident deer stay in lower agricultural areas year round. The migrating deer herd begins to move off the forest to lower elevations in mid-Nov, often to BLM lands. The best deer hunting is at mid elevations (8,500-9,500ft), with more buck opportunities in the later seasons. The Battlements can be good in late seasons, but the terrain is rugged. The open country offers good opportunities for those who get out on foot or horseback. ELK HUNTING The elk herd is well distributed with good hunting success expected. Elk are scattered throughout the forest and on private lands. Most elk stay at higher elevations (8500- 10,000ft) in thick timber and oakbrush. There is no migration during the season, movement to the more remote areas is in response to hunting pressure. They will seek classic cover - the heavily wooded, north-facing slopes near water. You will need to get away from the roads. There are lots of legal bulls as the area is managed for quantity of bulls rather than trophy status. Hence, trophy bulls are present but relatively rare.","brand":"Spirited Republic","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":36441323372700,"sku":"1187407","price":9.99,"currency_code":"USD","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0441\/7850\/5884\/files\/spirited-republic-2020-colorado-big-game-elk-deer-topo-hunt-habitat-range-gmu-42-digital-map-34276085891228.jpg?v=1691808605","url":"https:\/\/store.avenza.com\/products\/2020-colorado-big-game-elkdeer-topo-hunt-habitat-range-gmu-42-spirited-republic-map","provider":"Avenza Maps","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
