The terrain is classic shortgrass prairie: flat to gently rolling rangeland, broken by arid breaks, long draws, shallow creek systems, and scattered canyons. Intermixed dryland crops, grain fields, and shelterbelts introduce valuable habitat variation, while cottonwoods and brush in creek bottoms offer the best natural cover in the unit.\r\n\r\nThis is true plains big-game country. Hunters will encounter strong pronghorn (antelope) numbers across open prairie and agricultural ground, as well as mule deer and white-tailed deer scattered throughout breaks, creek drainages, and crop edges. A small number of elk are present in the rougher eastern terrain, but densities are low and typically limited to larger private ranchlands.
