This unit consists of classic high-plains habitat blended with unique features—shortgrass prairie, dryland and irrigated cropland, CRP fields, riverbottoms, sandy breaks, playa basins, shallow creek drainages, and scattered cottonwood shelterbelts. The Arkansas River corridor forms an important habitat zone in the northern portion of the unit.\r\n\r\nGMU 118 offers excellent pronghorn (antelope) hunting, with strong herds spread across prairie, stubble fields, and CRP grasslands. Mule deer and white-tailed deer both inhabit the region—mule deer favoring the sandy breaks, canyons, and upland fields, while whitetails concentrate around riverbottoms, irrigated pivots, shelterbelts, and creek corridors. Public land is extremely limited, so hunters rely heavily on landowner permission or Colorado Parks \u0026amp; Wildlife’s Walk-In Access (WIA) parcels, which are valuable assets in this part of Colorado.\r\n\r\nUpland and small-game hunting includes ring-necked pheasant, bobwhite quail, scaled quail, dove, coyote, fox, and jackrabbit.
