Each map includes spectacular 3D hillshade topography, contour lines, public-land ownership boundaries, major roads only, key terrain features, and hydrology.\r\n\r\nLose yourself in Colorado’s rolling prairie and rugged canyon country — yet NEVER GET LOST!\r\n\r\nGMU 126 lies in southeastern Colorado, covering portions of Las Animas County near the communities of Thatcher, Timpas, Model, and Delhi. This unit blends open high-plains prairie with increasingly rugged features to the south and west, including juniper-covered mesas, broken rimrock, deep draws, sage flats, cholla hillsides, CRP fields, and agricultural edges. The diversity of terrain makes GMU 126 one of the more dynamic units in the region.\r\n\r\nGMU 126 supports solid populations of pronghorn (antelope) across the prairie, stubble fields, and rolling rangeland. Mule deer are common throughout the canyons, benches, juniper slopes, and broken terrain, often bedding in rough cover and emerging to feed in lower flats at dawn and dusk. White-tailed deer occur in smaller pockets, primarily along creek drainages, cottonwood corridors, and irrigated edges.\r\n\r\nPublic land is limited and fragmented, with the majority of the unit consisting of private ranchland, making landowner permission essential. Seasonal access through Colorado Parks \u0026amp; Wildlife’s Walk-In Access (WIA) program may provide additional opportunities for upland and small-game hunting.\r\n\r\nUpland and predator-hunting opportunities include scaled quail, bobwhite quail, dove, coyote, fox, and jackrabbit. Scaled quail thrive especially in brushy, sandy terrain and cholla flats, which are common in this unit.\r\n\r\nWhy Hunters Trust Our Maps\r\n\r\nGPS-accurate and works offline in the free Avenza Map app\r\n\r\n3D hillshade and contour lines highlight canyon rims, mesas, and subtle plains features\r\n\r\nPublic and private-land boundaries clearly identified\r\n\r\nMajor roads only — clean, uncluttered navigation\r\n\r\nKey terrain features: Canyons, juniper mesas, cholla flats, sagebrush benches, prairie drainages, CRP fields, crop edges, windmills, and stock ponds\r\n\r\nEasy-to-read layout designed for both open-country and rugged-terrain hunters\r\n\r\nMark your camps, glassing points, fence crossings, harvest locations, and bird-hunting fields\r\n\r\nCould save your life by allowing emergency personnel to pinpoint your exact location\r\n\r\nRecommended Hunting Targets in GMU 126\r\n\r\nBig Game: Pronghorn (primary), Mule Deer, White-Tailed Deer (localized pockets)\r\n\r\nBirds: Scaled Quail, Bobwhite Quail, Dove\r\n\r\nOther: Coyote, Fox, Jackrabbit, Small Game\r\n\r\nNote: GMU 126 is predominantly private land, with canyonlands and productive prairie often within large ranch holdings. Hunters must obtain landowner permission or rely on available WIA parcels. The best hunting is typically found where canyon rims meet open prairie, or in juniper draws, sage flats, CRP corners, and agricultural transitions where food, water, and cover overlap.\r\n\r\nMobile Map Tips\r\n\r\nUse airplane mode to save battery life and disable background apps. Bring a backup battery or solar charger—cell service is sparse. For mule deer, glass early and late along canyon rims, benches, and broken terrain. For pronghorn, focus on prairie flats, pivot edges, and rolling rangeland during peak activity.","brand":"Map the Xperience","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":45610353328284,"sku":"1714625","price":4.99,"currency_code":"USD","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0441\/7850\/5884\/files\/map-the-xperience-gmu-126-map-1714625-preview-0.jpg?v=1763739525","url":"https:\/\/store.avenza.com\/products\/2025-colorado-hunt-map-gmu-126-map-the-xperience-map","provider":"Avenza Maps","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
