This unit includes a wide variety of terrain—from open shortgrass prairie and dryland cropland in the east to rugged juniper mesas, rocky escarpments, cholla flats, sagebrush benches, deep draws, and canyon systems in the west. The blend of plains and canyon country creates excellent habitat diversity for big game and upland species.\r\n\r\nGMU 128 offers strong hunting opportunities for pronghorn (antelope) across the open prairie, rangeland, and agricultural edges. Mule deer inhabit the rugged portions of the unit, particularly canyon rims, juniper hills, benches, and broken terrain. Many bucks use the rough country as bedding habitat before moving to lower flats to feed. White-tailed deer are present in smaller pockets along creek bottoms, cottonwood drainages, and irrigated fields.\r\n\r\nPublic land exists in limited, scattered parcels, while most of GMU 128 is private ranchland, making landowner permission a requirement for access. Hunters may also find opportunity through seasonal Colorado Parks \u0026amp; Wildlife Walk-In Access (WIA) parcels, particularly for upland species.\r\n\r\nUpland and small-game opportunities include scaled quail, bobwhite quail, dove, coyote, fox, and jackrabbit.
