The landscape consists of shortgrass prairie, dryland farms, irrigated cropland, CRP fields, shelterbelts, prairie drainages, playa basins, and rolling rangeland. The terrain is mostly open, offering long sight distances and classic plains hunting conditions.\r\n\r\nGMU 139 offers excellent pronghorn (antelope) hunting, with herds widely spread across open prairie, CRP grasslands, stubble fields, and agricultural edges. Mule deer use the brushy pockets, prairie draws, creek bottoms, and transitions between rangeland and cropland, while white-tailed deer occur in localized pockets near riparian corridors, cottonwood strips, and shelterbelts.\r\n\r\nThere is very little public land in GMU 139. Nearly the entire unit is private farmland and ranchland, requiring hunters to secure landowner permission. Seasonal Colorado Parks \u0026amp; Wildlife Walk-In Access (WIA) parcels can provide additional opportunities for both big-game and upland hunters.\r\n\r\nUpland and small-game hunting includes ring-necked pheasant, bobwhite quail, scaled quail (limited pockets), dove, coyote, fox, and jackrabbit.
