Each map includes spectacular 3D hillshade topography, contour lines, public-land ownership boundaries, major roads only, key terrain features, and hydrology. Federal lands include BLM, USFS, and others where applicable.\r\n\r\nLose yourself hunting Colorado’s wild country — yet NEVER GET LOST!\r\n\r\nGMU 29 lies along Colorado’s northern Front Range west of Boulder and north of Golden, encompassing steep canyons, foothill forests, and rugged mountain terrain within the Roosevelt National Forest and adjacent public lands. This unit offers strong elk and mule deer hunting close to the Denver metro area, with productive habitat across the timbered slopes, aspen groves, and meadows that dominate the high foothills. Elk are found throughout the unit, often moving between public and private land, particularly during archery and early rifle seasons. Mule deer populations are solid, especially in the mid-elevation zones and open ridgelines. While hunting pressure can be higher due to proximity to the Front Range, GMU 29 continues to produce quality elk and deer for those willing to hike away from roads and cover more remote ground.\r\n\r\nThe unit also provides good small-game and bird-hunting opportunities, including dusky (blue) grouse, Merriam’s turkey, and waterfowl along foothill creeks and reservoirs. Grouse hunting in the early fall can be excellent in the aspen and mixed-conifer zones, and spring or fall turkey hunting in the lower canyons provides an enjoyable alternative to big-game seasons.\r\n\r\nWhy Hunters Trust Our Maps\r\n\r\nGPS-accurate and works offline in the free Avenza Map app\r\n\r\n3D hillshade topography and contour lines for terrain awareness\r\n\r\nPublic-land and private-land boundaries (BLM, USFS, state, county) clearly displayed\r\n\r\nMajor roads only (for orientation) – no dense trail networks\r\n\r\nKey terrain features: canyons, creeks, ridgelines, and national forest access points\r\n\r\nClear, easy-read format built for hunters\r\n\r\nMark your camp, glassing points, harvest sites, and scouting routes\r\n\r\nCould save your life by allowing rescue personnel to pinpoint your exact location in an emergency\r\n\r\nRecommended Hunting Targets in GMU 29\r\n\r\nBig Game: Elk (primary), Mule Deer (secondary), Black Bear (occasional in timbered areas)\r\nBirds: Dusky (Blue) Grouse, Merriam’s Turkey, and limited Waterfowl along foothill creeks and reservoirs\r\n\r\nNote: GMU 29 contains a large percentage of private land near the eastern edge and foothill towns. Always verify access before hunting, and focus on Roosevelt National Forest lands or State Wildlife Areas for reliable public access.\r\n\r\nMobile Map Tips: Use your phone in airplane mode to conserve battery. Turn off unnecessary apps. Carry a spare battery or solar charger—especially important in steep terrain where GPS use and cold temperatures can drain power. Mark your route at key intersections, and always check local weather before heading into the high country.","brand":"Map the Xperience","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":45474260746396,"sku":"1712954","price":4.99,"currency_code":"USD","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0441\/7850\/5884\/files\/map-the-xperience-2025-colorado-hunt-map-gmu-29-map-1712954-preview-0.jpg?v=1761682252","url":"https:\/\/store.avenza.com\/products\/2025-colorado-hunt-map-gmu-29-map-the-xperience-map","provider":"Avenza Maps","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
