Each map includes spectacular 3D hillshade topography, contour lines, public-land ownership boundaries, major roads only, key terrain features, and hydrology. Federal lands include BLM, USFS, and others where applicable.\r\n\r\nLose yourself hunting Colorado’s wild country — yet NEVER GET LOST!\r\n\r\nGMU 39 lies along the central Front Range west of Denver, encompassing the dramatic mountain terrain around Mount Evans, Evergreen, and Idaho Springs. This rugged unit features steep canyons, dense timber, alpine basins, and high-elevation meadows within the Arapaho and Roosevelt National Forests, plus portions of the Mount Evans Wilderness. It is one of the most scenic and physically demanding units in the state, offering close-to-home yet truly wild hunting experiences.\r\n\r\nElk are plentiful throughout GMU 39, with resident herds in the timbered foothills and migratory elk moving in from higher elevations as snow arrives. Hunting success often depends on covering steep ground and finding pockets of low-pressure habitat away from roads. Mule deer populations are strong as well, particularly in the mid-elevation zones where aspens, scrub oak, and open slopes provide ideal forage. Black bears are occasionally encountered in the forested canyons and berry-producing drainages.\r\n\r\nDue to its proximity to Denver and its mix of easily accessed and rugged terrain, hunting pressure in GMU 39 can vary greatly. Archery and early rifle hunters who hike into remote areas or wilderness zones often find solitude and greater success.\r\n\r\nThis unit also provides excellent small-game and upland bird opportunities. Dusky (blue) grouse thrive in the aspen and mixed-conifer forests, and Merriam’s turkeys can be found in the lower foothill canyons and open timber. Spring turkey hunting is particularly popular here, offering challenging terrain and stunning scenery.\r\n\r\nWhy Hunters Trust Our Maps\r\n\r\nGPS-accurate and works offline in the free Avenza Map app\r\n\r\n3D hillshade topography and contour lines for terrain awareness\r\n\r\nPublic-land and private-land boundaries (BLM, USFS, state, county) clearly displayed\r\n\r\nMajor roads only (for orientation) – no cluttered trail networks\r\n\r\nKey terrain features: canyons, ridgelines, meadows, and wilderness access points\r\n\r\nClear, easy-to-read format built for hunters\r\n\r\nMark your camp, glassing points, harvest sites, and scouting routes\r\n\r\nCould save your life by allowing rescue personnel to pinpoint your exact location in an emergency\r\n\r\nRecommended Hunting Targets in GMU 39\r\n\r\nBig Game: Elk (primary), Mule Deer (secondary), Black Bear (occasional)\r\nBirds: Dusky (Blue) Grouse, Merriam’s Turkey, limited Waterfowl near foothill reservoirs\r\n\r\nNote: GMU 39 includes a significant mix of public and private land. Carry a spare battery or solar charger—especially important in steep terrain and high elevations where cold temperatures drain power quickly. Mark your route before heading out, and always check local weather forecasts for sudden mountain changes.","brand":"Map the Xperience","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":45474320744604,"sku":"1712961","price":4.99,"currency_code":"USD","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0441\/7850\/5884\/files\/map-the-xperience-2025-colorado-hunt-map-gmu-39-map-1712961-preview-0.jpg?v=1761682252","url":"https:\/\/store.avenza.com\/products\/2025-colorado-hunt-map-gmu-39-map-the-xperience-map","provider":"Avenza Maps","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
