Hunters will encounter everything from juniper foothills and pinyon-covered ridges to aspen stands, conifer forests, high-elevation meadows, rocky canyons, and expansive sage flats—each contributing to the unit’s reputation for producing quality big game.\r\n\r\nMule deer in the Fillmore Unit utilize elevation and habitat changes throughout the year. Early in the season, deer are often found in higher elevation aspen groves, timber pockets, north-facing slopes, and secluded mountain basins where cover is abundant and temperatures are cooler. As weather shifts and pressure builds, deer transition into foothill benches, oakbrush ridges, and sagebrush slopes near the base of the Pahvant Range. Bucks commonly feed at dawn and dusk in open meadows, sage pockets, and brushy clearings, retreating to thicker cover during daylight hours.\r\n\r\nElk in the Fillmore Unit use the Pahvant Range extensively, bedding in dark timber, steep draws, and shaded ridgelines while feeding across grassy openings, burn scars, and higher elevation meadows.
