Each map includes 3D hillshade, contour lines, public and private land boundaries, major roads only, hydrology, and essential terrain features. Lose yourself in Wyoming’s wide-open desert country—yet NEVER GET LOST.\r\n\r\nWyoming Antelope Area 57, known as South Wamsutter, lies in south-central Wyoming within Sweetwater County, south and southwest of the town of Wamsutter and extending deep into the Red Desert. This unit represents classic high-desert pronghorn habitat and is defined by vast sagebrush plains, broad open basins, low ridgelines, shallow draws, desert benches, sand flats, and scattered badland features. The landscape is expansive, windswept, and sparsely vegetated, offering long sightlines and excellent visibility across much of the unit.\r\n\r\nPronghorn in the South Wamsutter unit typically bed on open benches, gentle ridges, and elevated desert flats where they can detect movement from great distances. During warmer parts of the day, antelope often use shallow draws, basin edges, subtle terrain folds, and spring-fed pockets for shade and wind relief. Morning and evening movement is common across sagebrush plains, grassy benches, basin bottoms, and open desert parks, particularly near limited water sources and natural travel corridors.\r\n\r\nHunting Area 57 strongly favors long-range glassing and patient spot-and-stalk tactics. Hunters commonly glass from basin rims, subtle high points, low ridgelines, and elevated benches, using optics to cover immense expanses of open terrain. Successful stalks rely on shallow draws, terrain rolls, desert cuts, fence lines, and elevation changes to stay concealed. Wind direction is a constant factor in this exposed environment, and patience is often far more effective than aggressive movement. Ambush opportunities may exist near springs, water developments, fence crossings, and natural movement funnels created by subtle terrain features.\r\n\r\nLandownership in Area 57 is a mix of private land, State Trust parcels, and large blocks of public ground, with ownership patterns varying widely across the desert. Public access is more common here than in many eastern units, but boundaries must still be respected. Our map clearly displays all public and private land boundaries, access routes, hydrology, and terrain features needed to confidently and legally navigate this vast landscape.\r\n\r\nHunters rely on our maps because they provide precise, GPS-accurate tracking in the Avenza app even without cell service—critical in Red Desert country where landmarks are subtle and distances are deceptive. The 3D hillshade layer highlights basin edges, shallow draws, desert benches, spring corridors, and elevation changes, helping hunters read pronghorn movement and plan efficient stalks. The clean layout avoids clutter while delivering every essential detail for marking glassing locations, water sources, access routes, stalk paths, and harvest sites.\r\n\r\nFor best field performance, download your map before entering the unit, place your device in airplane mode to conserve battery life, and carry a backup power source. Pre-marking access points, property boundaries, glassing knobs, water sources, and likely travel routes will greatly improve efficiency and success while hunting the South Wamsutter antelope unit.","brand":"Map the Xperience","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":45851551760540,"sku":"1727648","price":4.99,"currency_code":"USD","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0441\/7850\/5884\/files\/map-the-xperience-2025-wyoming-hunt-map-antelope-area-57-south-wamsutter-map-1727648-preview-0_e66a4fc6-3cd8-428d-a49b-ae270acb01c0.jpg?v=1766499890","url":"https:\/\/store.avenza.com\/products\/2025-wyoming-hunt-map-antelope-area-57-south-wamsutter-map-the-xperience-map","provider":"Avenza Maps","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
