Each map includes 3D hillshade, contour lines, public and private land boundaries, major roads only, hydrology, and essential terrain features. Lose yourself in Wyoming’s vast high basins and Absaroka timber—yet NEVER GET LOST.\r\n\r\nWyoming Elk Hunt Area 59, known as Boulder Basin, lies in northwest Wyoming within Park County, spanning the rugged Absaroka foothills, timbered ridgelines, and broad high-country basins north of Cody and west of the Clarks Fork drainage. This is a landscape of dense conifer forests, alpine benches, sagebrush mesas, steep canyons, rocky escarpments, secluded meadows, and expansive high-elevation basins, forming some of the most productive elk habitat along the eastern edge of Yellowstone country.\r\n\r\nElk in the Boulder Basin unit typically bed in the heavy timber, north-facing slopes, and remote canyons that dominate the Absaroka foothills. These areas offer excellent security, shade, and protection from both hunting pressure and shifting weather. During low-light hours, elk move into alpine meadows, grassy benches, sagebrush openings, and riparian corridors to feed. As hunting pressure increases or weather patterns shift, elk may move higher into rugged basins, deeper into wilderness-adjacent terrain, or along natural migration routes connected to Yellowstone and the North Absaroka Wilderness. Water is abundant, with creeks, springs, and high-elevation tributaries creating numerous travel routes and feeding zones.\r\n\r\nHunting Boulder Basin requires strong backcountry skills, solid glassing ability, and a willingness to navigate steep, remote, and often brushy terrain. Many hunters begin at vantage points overlooking broad meadows, basin edges, or drainage mouths—areas where elk can be spotted moving toward bedding cover. Spot-and-stalk opportunities exist in the basin country, though stalks frequently involve long, careful routes to account for swirling winds, deadfall, or steep cliffs. In heavily timbered or rugged drainages, slow still-hunting and ambush setups along saddles, benches, or known travel routes can be effective. The rut can be intense here, with bulls bugling across basins and echoing through the upper-country canyons.\r\n\r\nLandownership in Area 59 is dominated by Shoshone National Forest, with wilderness areas influencing travel patterns and limiting motorized access. Private holdings are minimal but exist near lower approaches, making accurate navigation essential to avoid trespass. Road access is limited, with most of the prime elk habitat requiring foot or horseback travel. Our map clearly displays forest boundaries, wilderness borders, hydrology, legal access points, and the terrain features that define elk movement throughout Boulder Basin.\r\n\r\nHunters rely on our maps because they provide precise, GPS-accurate tracking in the Avenza app even without cell coverage—a necessity in this remote mountain environment. The 3D hillshade layer highlights ridges, basins, cliffs, avalanche paths, drainages, benches, and steep elevation transitions, helping hunters understand elk behavior and plan safe, efficient routes. The map’s clean, uncluttered design provides only the essential details needed to mark glassing spots, bedding zones, water sources, travel corridors, pack-out routes, and harvest locations.\r\n\r\nFor best performance in the field, keep your device in airplane mode to conserve battery and bring multiple backup power sources. Download your map before entering the unit, as there is no reliable cell service anywhere in Boulder Basin. Pre-marking ridge systems, creek crossings, glassing points, camp locations, and likely elk travel corridors will greatly improve both safety and success once the hunt begins.","brand":"Map the Xperience","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":45738774200476,"sku":"1719626","price":4.99,"currency_code":"USD","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0441\/7850\/5884\/files\/map-the-xperience-wyoming-elk-hunt-area-59-hunt-wyoming-map-1719626-preview-0_4c99f96c-3843-49d4-be69-1dfb9bd02134.jpg?v=1765458993","url":"https:\/\/store.avenza.com\/products\/2025-wyoming-hunt-map-elk-area-59-map-the-xperience-map","provider":"Avenza Maps","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
