{"product_id":"afghanistan-farah-29l-western-michigan-university-map","title":"AFGHANISTAN-FARAH: 29L","description":"This Afghanistan \u0026amp; Baluchistan map series of 4 miles to the inch is derived directly from Survey of India maps produced mainly from 1881-1911. Principal topographic features are shown (without elevations) and some maps are deficient because of the less than complete trigonometric surveys of the age. However, maps still generally conform to Bing Maps and Google Earth. Revisions to 1940 editions are thought to show mainly land line telephone and telegraph alignments of the British Imperial system – largely irrelevant today, but indicating the existing spatial connectivity of the electronic communications of those times. Principal settlements should correspond well to contemporary places. These maps reveal the pre-existing “skeletal structure” of Afghanistan \u0026amp; Baluchistan from earlier times, established in the 17th-18th centuries. Source of Original Maps: Survey of India maps dated 1881-1910 (minor revisions to 1940).
