A few old-growth Hemlock left behind by the logging company remain scattered throughout the valley but they are dwindling in number. In the more-remote higher elevations a few large American Chestnut trees still stand watch.\r\n\r\nIt is high-consequence terrain and should not be attempted by anyone unprepared for its rugged and difficult-to-identify tracks. Those who venture into the depths of the area are rewarded with a true backcountry experience - technical fishing, solitude, and wild terrain.\r\n\r\nIt is also one of the few wild areas in the region where fishers aren’t outnumbered by hikers. Despite two fantastic hiking routes on its boundaries, the difficulty turns away day trippers and folks who prefer the ease of nearby trail systems.
