For hundreds of years, locals have planted rice and built irrigation canals here, sometimes drilling tunnels hundreds of metres long through the rocks. \r\nWe walk along part of this work, marvel at the Otaki waterfall, over 20 metres high, and enjoy the coolness at the many smaller waterfalls.
