For example, the Woody Ridge Trail, begins at 3,000-feet and in just 2.2-miles climbs to over 6,000-feet near Celo Knob, Percy's Knob and Gibbs Mountain.  Likewise, the most popular trail, the Mount Mitchell Trail, begins at Black Mountain Campground on the South Toe River and rises in just under 6-miles to the summit of Mount Mitchell at 6,684-feet, and elevation gain of 3,684-feet!
