Opposite the peak lies the striking plateau called “The Table,” blanketed with bristlecone and limber pines. The surrounding landscape is rugged and densely forested with pinyon-juniper, dotted with shallow caves that offer glimpses into the region’s prehistoric past.\r\nSeveral established trails follow clear, year-round streams home to trout, while the Government Peak Wilderness currently contains no developed trails.\r\n\r\nThe southern edge of the Snake Range includes Sacramento Pass Recreation Area and Great Basin National Park — both excellent places for additional exploration and camping.\r\nOther Information\r\n\r\nMotor vehicles are permitted on designated routes only. Water sources are limited in the heart of the wilderness, so backpackers should carry plenty. Please respect wilderness boundaries: motorized and mechanized use is not allowed inside the Mount Moriah or Government Peak Wilderness areas.\r\nThis remote corner of Nevada delivers outstanding solitude, unique geology, and a true high-mountain experience for adventurous riders.\r\n\r\nHelpful Tip\r\nThe area is very remote with limited services.
