Yufu (Yufu-dake) is a popular peak of 1,583 meters. It's one of the 200 famous mountains and is located with good access and easy distance from both Beppu and Yufuin cities in Oita prefecture.\r\nAs a typical stratovolcano, the trail gets steadily steeper, rising through grassland, then forest before finally emerging on the rocky crater rim. There are two peaks, including the steep but easier east peak. Unfortunately for the faint hearted, the higher western peak involves some climbing with fixed chains on narrow ledges over a big drop above the crater.
