What is Custom Symbology and Who Can Use It?
Custom Symbology is a self-serve tool designed for users to easily upload and organize their own symbols. With this feature, you can add a personal touch to your maps by using custom JPEG or PNG files (up to 2MB each) as map symbols. This feature is perfect for outdoor enthusiasts, professionals, and organizations looking to create clear, customized visualizations.
While any Avenza Maps user can access the Custom Symbology tool, the ability to apply the uploaded symbols in the app is exclusive to users with an active Avenza Maps Pro subscription. Subscribing unlocks the full potential of your custom symbols, enhancing your mapping projects.
How to Get Started
- Visit the Custom Symbology Page: Head to access.avenza.com/symbol-generator.
- Upload Your Own Symbols: Upload and manage symbols in JPEG or PNG (up to 2MB each) format with just a few clicks.
- Adjust and Edit: Rename your symbols for easy identification and adjust the anchor point for precise placement on your map. Special characters in file names will be rejected, so be sure to use standard characters.
- Import the Symbols: Once your symbols are ready to use, open the app and go to Settings > Manage Symbol Sets > Import > navigate to the file.
