As the snow melts away and nature begins to wake up, spring is the perfect time to hit the trails. The air is crisp, wildflowers start to bloom, and waterfalls are at their most powerful. While popular trails can get busy, Canada is full of lesser-known hikes that offer breathtaking views and a peaceful escape into nature. If you're looking to explore hidden gems this season, here are five incredible spring hiking destinations across Canada.
1. Skagit Valley Trails, British Columbia

Near the U.S. border, Skagit Valley is a great spot for spring hiking. The trails take you through forests, along rivers, and up to alpine meadows. A popular route is the Skyline II Trail, a moderate hike with stunning views of the surrounding mountains. Along the way, you’ll see the Skagit River below and might spot wildlife like deer, bears, or eagles. Late spring is an ideal time to visit, as the meadows are full of wildflowers. For longer hikes, the Skagit Trail connects to other routes, making it easy to extend your adventure.

2. Siffleur Falls Trail, Alberta

The Siffleur Falls Trail in Alberta is an easy to moderate hike with beautiful views and several waterfalls along the way. The trail goes up and down, and there are some icy and muddy spots, so using poles can help, especially near the second falls. The trail is well-maintained with signs and ropes to help with steeper parts. The main waterfall is the biggest highlight, but the whole trail offers great views of the river and canyons. If you're short on time, stopping at the main waterfall is a good choice, though the rest of the trail is still beautiful.

3. Barron Canyon Trail, Ontario

Spring in Ontario brings the forests back to life, and Barron Canyon Trail in Algonquin Park is the perfect place to enjoy it. This short but beautiful hike takes you along the edge of a 100-metre-deep canyon, with amazing views of the Barron River below. The green moss and rock formations make it a great spot for photos. The trail is easy to follow, with a few steep sections and some tree roots along the way. The best part? The breathtaking canyon views from several lookout points. If you can go at sunset, the scenery is even more stunning. Bring your camera, you won’t want to miss it!

4. Mont Albert Loop, Quebec

If you're looking for a challenge, the Mont Albert Loop in Parc national de la Gaspésie is an amazing spring hike with mountain views, hidden waterfalls, and colorful wildflowers. The trail starts with a steady climb through forested areas before opening up to wide, open landscapes where you can see for miles. Spring weather in Gaspésie can be a bit unpredictable, but the views are well worth it.
The top of the trail and the first part of the way down have some of the most stunning views, making the climb totally worth it. But be ready, the way down is quite rocky and tricky in some spots. The full loop takes about 7 hours at a normal pace, with a lot of time spent carefully stepping over uneven ground near the end. It’s a tough but rewarding hike perfect for those who love a challenge!

5. Eatonville Three Sisters Trail, Nova Scotia

Spring on the East Coast brings cool ocean air and big tides, making the Eatonville Day Hike in Cape Chignecto a great spring adventure. The trail has amazing views of sea cliffs, sea stacks, and hidden coves. With fewer people in spring, you might even have the lookouts all to yourself! The trail is easy to walk, mostly on mowed grass through the woods. There are several lookout decks with beautiful views of the ocean. It's a simple hike, so it’s not for those who want a really challenging experience, unless you go off the trail. To the left of the Eatonville Harbour Lookout, you'll find an old path leading down through the woods to the beach. It’s a bit steep, but it's worth it as you can relax in peace and even take a swim in the beautiful waters.
