Forest Department Targets 100% Response Rate to Wildfires in Odisha
The Odisha Forest Department has set a goal to achieve a 100% response rate to wildfire incidents during the current forest fire season in Odisha, which runs from January to June. Last year, the state recorded 22,868 forest fire points, the lowest in three years, with a 99.86% response rate.
Efforts to mitigate forest fires include district-level action plans, awareness camps in forest fringe villages, and the creation of 12,000 km of fire lines annually. GIS technology and the Avenza Maps app will be utilized to plan fire lines effectively. Additionally, AI-powered camera towers in tiger reserves like Similipal and Satkosia will enhance monitoring and response capabilities.
