Avenza User Conference 2023

The Avenza User Conference is a free virtual conference for map makers, GIS enthusiasts, and geospatial professionals worldwide who share a common interest in Avenza mapping technology. The conference will include a combination of virtual sessions led by experts who will share their experiences with Avenza mapping products.

We had the honour of having Steve Lauterbach as one of our panel speakers at #AvenzaUC2023. Steve is the Chairperson at Arnold Rim Trail Association (ARTA). Twenty years ago, Steve retired and moved to the Arnold, California area, and he could finally call the Sierra Nevada mountains his “home.” In retirement, he has been honoured to help in the founding and building of the Arnold Rim Trail.

Arnold Rim Trail Association’s Collaboration with Avenza Maps

Fifteen years ago, a small group of local all-volunteer community folks envisioned the Arnold Rim Trail, a single-track multi-purpose trail in the Stanislaus National Forest around our beautiful Arnold community. Working hand-in-glove with managers at the Calaveras District, the trail grew from a concept to a fully realized twenty-three-mile single-track trail with three additional loop trails where equestrians, mountain bikers, hikers, and trail runners share the trail harmoniously. The Calaveras District and the community support formed the backbone of the Arnold Rim Trail. As so many informal side trails cross the Arnold Rim Trail, paper maps simply do not work.

In this presentation, Steve outlines how collaborating with Avenza Maps has benefited ARTA. With the help of Avenza Maps, people can know precisely where they are every minute on the trail. Kimberly Grissom, a cartographer, created the map of the Arnold Rim Trail, and it is available on Avenza Maps for users to download.
