How to Use Avenza Maps Draw and Measure Tool
Avenza Maps Draw and Measure Tool
As technology continues to develop, how information is presented to users continues to change as well. People began moving away from using print maps to digital ones in the 1980s. This unlocked the ability for users to interact with maps rather than simply read them. One of the ways people interact with maps is by using the Avenza Maps draw and measure tool. The draw and measure tool allows users to draw their routes and calculate the distance they need to travel.
How to Draw and Measure a Line
Are you planning a hike or an off-roading adventure? You can draw and measure a line to plan your route and know exactly how long it will take for you to get there. This is very helpful when you’re travelling and on a time crunch or simply want to know how long it will take to get to your destination.
Steps to Draw and Measure a Line
- With the Draw and Measure tool open, pan around the map until the crosshair is centered where you would like to create your first point
- Once the crosshair is in place, tap on "Add Point" to create the first vertex
- Continue in this fashion until your line is complete. If you need to undo a point you just created, tap on "undo" to remove the last vertex
- While drawing, you will see the line measurements at the top of the screen for the current segment, and the total of all lines
- Once satisfied with your line, tap "checkmark" on the lower right-hand side to save the line. It will now be listed in your Map Features list
How to Draw and Measure an Area
Do you work in the field of conservation & recreation or forestry? Avenza Maps allows you to collect accurate data that can help you and your team make better decisions regarding the environment. With this, you can use the draw and measure an area tool to calculate the area of a forest to determine how trees could be planted and distributed or to evaluate the current level of biodiversity. Regardless of your industry, the draw and measure an area tool is an effective tool to use to collect the most accurate data.
Steps to Draw and Measure an Area
