The Avenza User Conference is a free virtual conference for map makers, GIS enthusiasts, and geospatial professionals worldwide who share a common interest in Avenza mapping technology. The conference will include a combination of virtual sessions led by experts who will share their experiences with Avenza mapping products.
Rebecca Sherwin, the Digital Mapping Specialist at Avenza Systems holds a B.Sc. in Zoology from the University of Guelph and a GIS Applications Specialist postgraduate certificate from Fleming College. She works with Map Store publishers around the world to get their maps in the Map Store. Rebecca enjoys hiking, birdwatching and drawing in her free time.
Understanding the New Avenza Map Store
In this presentation, Rebecca goes over how the Map Store search works, new and improved features, tools and search functionalities. Through this video, one can understand the ins and outs of the Map Store and how it benefits both users and publishers. Some of the key improvements made are search refinement, increased typo tolerance, and a custom synonym database including the use of abbreviations.
Rebecca provides a detailed explanation of the functionality behind the "Request A Map" button. To utilize this feature, users are required to complete a form. The initial step involves defining the area of interest by drawing a bounding box around it. Furthermore, users are expected to specify the place's name, state the purpose for which they need the specific map, and, lastly, enter their email address for communication purposes before submitting the request.
In the last part of the presentation, Rebecca delves into the concept of "Activity Collections." Within the Adventure tab, there is an array of activities available, allowing users to search for maps tailored to their preferred activities. This feature significantly enhances the user experience, making it more convenient for our audience.
