Top Summer Biking Trails to Explore Across Canada
There’s no better way to explore Canada and all it offers than by hitting the trails by bike! While you’ll be riding fast enough to enjoy a cool breeze, you’ll also be going slow enough to soak up the scenery around you and enjoy every moment. Not to mention, cycling is a fantastic low-impact exercise in comparison to other activities, such as running or hiking, making it a top activity for many outdoor enthusiasts. Cycling down the street on a warm summer day with the wind blowing through your hair provides the best kind of calm, relief and satisfaction you’re yearning for. There are so many biking trails to discover in Canada, as you can find many trails in national parks, UNESCO World Heritage sites and more!
We've compiled a list of the best biking trails to hit this summer! From the trails in Lake Louise, moving up north towards British Columbia, and back down to Ontario, there are so many cycling routes to choose from. Our map store makes it easy for you to find the exact biking maps you’re looking for, along with relevant information such as points of interest, landmarks and more along the way.
Southeastern Waterfront Trail - Ontario
The waterfront trail offers the most breathtaking elevated views of Lake Ontario and is a hidden gem for cyclists! The waterfront east trail extends from east Scarborough to Darington National Park in Oshawa. The best part? The route traverses over 5 different cities in southern Ontario (Scarborough, Pickering, Ajax, Whitby and Oshawa) when passing over 15 parks and 6 wildlife conservation areas. Kettle Valley Rail Trail - British Columbia
Cycling through one of Canada’s sunniest regions on an awe-inspiring part of the Trans Canada Trail along the Okanagan, British Columbia is the best to-do to add to your summer bucket list! This rail trail covers a variety of terrain, taking you through the remote backcountry, through lakes, green lush forests, and over old railway trestles in Penticton. To explore this beautiful trail, you have the option of either bringing along your own bike, or renting e-bikes from either Penticton Bike Rentals or Freedom Bike Shop.

Lake Louise - Alberta
From road cycling to e-biking, or just going for a scenic ride, there’s something for everyone to explore in Banff National Park! Biking through Lake Louise is the perfect way to experience some of Canada’s most scenic roads and trails. Whether you have just a few hours to explore Lake Louise or an entire day, cycling will allow you to see everything you need to.
Begin your adventure by riding along Bike Sundance Trail; a paved path, close to town, that can be found just beyond the Cave and Basin and begins with a downhill cruise. You can expect this trail to take anywhere from 1-3 hours. We also highly recommend the Bow Valley Parkway to Lake Louise - one of the most popular scenic bike routes adventure enthusiasts can take towards Lake Louise. However, this bike ride is not for the faint of heart, as you’ll experience an enriching challenge of 50 km one way with a 412 elevation gain! Who’s ready for their mid-summer challenge?
