Success Story: Crazy Mountain Ranch

What comes to mind when you think of Montana? Ranches, horseback riding, cattle drives, mountain views, big skies, the wild American West, all of the above? Now imagine a place where you can experience all of that combined with modern amenities like world-class dining, cozy lodging, relaxing spas, epic trails for hiking, biking, and riding, a golf course, and even an authentic Old West town. This is Crazy Mountain Ranch.

Situated in Southwestern Montana, Crazy Mountain Ranch features all this and more on its expansive 18,000 acre property. It’s the job of Paul Mason, Supervisor of Outdoor Pursuits, to help visitors get the most of their visit.

“Our mission is to provide world-class recreational activities for our Ranch Members and Guests. We offer a variety of activities such as hiking, biking, fishing, hunting, ziplining, shooting, offroading, skiing, and snowmobiling all set in the most beautiful place in the country, Southwestern Montana.”

Authenticity is an important part of the Crazy Mountain Ranch experience as well, it is a working ranch in addition to a recreational destination. It is critical to strike a balance between providing a memorable, authentic experience and not letting technology get in the way. Avenza Maps has helped Paul strike that balance.

“Avenza Maps has made it simple and easy for our guests as well as guides to use our ranch maps and familiarize themselves with our trails. Also, they can easily geolocate themselves anywhere on property. Our ranch is 18,000 acres, and it is easy to get lost. Many people aren’t comfortable orienting themselves using only a paper map. It can be intimidating to head off on a 10-mile hike if you are not 100% sure you are heading in the right direction. Avenza Maps makes it easy to see exactly where you are, without the hassle.”

Crazy Mountain Ranch has adopted Avenza Maps QR codes to streamline the process of accessing maps and trail information. By scanning a single code, visitors can download Avenza Maps and the Ranch’s trail maps. This modern approach to map distribution not only improves convenience but also reduces the environmental footprint by minimizing the need for paper maps. Paul even plans to expand the offering by offering specialized activity maps as well as summer and winter maps.

“I am very excited to have a continued relationship with Avenza!”
