Success Story: Discover Jamestown
Jamestown, North Dakota epitomizes small-town America. Nestled on the edge of the Great Plains, Jamestown is quaint and understated while boasting scenic beauty that can only be found in a small town.
Warren Abrahamson is in charge of highlighting the diverse amenities and hidden gems that Jamestown possesses with the world. From the rich history to the beautiful trails, not to mention the world's largest buffalo, there is more to this town than you expect! As Marketing Manager for Jamestown Tourism, Warren looks to modern tools and techniques to help solve some of the problems that come along with bringing tourism to a small town.
“By integrating modern technology into our trail interactions, we hope to offer visitors a richer and more immersive experience. Leveraging Avenza Maps allows us to reach a larger audience and improve accessibility” shares Warren.
His journey with Avenza Maps began when a user suggested he digitize Jamestown’s trail maps for better accessibility. Intrigued, he reached out to Avenza, and we immediately got to work georeferencing the maps and setting them up on the Map Store. The result has been a seamless integration that benefits all who explore the trails.
“One of the challenges we faced was ensuring that visitors could easily access trail maps while out on the trails” says Warren. “Paper maps can be lost, damaged, or run out of stock. Avenza Maps and their QR codes solve this problem beautifully. Now, visitors can scan a code at trail kiosks or trailheads to instantly download the map to their phones. This convenience helps visitors plan their adventures better and ensures they always have a map when they need it.”
Warren wants to make Jamestown a must-stop destination and break free of only being known for the World’s Largest Buffalo. Providing enhanced trails and experiences is one way to do that.
“We hope having our trails on Avenza will show that there’s more to Jamestown and that we’re continuing to grow what we have to offer. We’ve received wonderful feedback from visitors and locals, who appreciate the addition of digital trail maps. They value the convenience of having virtual options alongside traditional printed maps. It’s been rewarding to see how this technology is enhancing their enjoyment of our trail systems.”
